Chores

Poor Jessi, if she only knew what she was getting herself into. I introduced Jess to chores the other day with a peppy 'ole, "hey Jess, you wanna be moms big helper?" She was ecstatic to help! I told her she was old enough to start doing chores around the house, she smiled and said okay.

So off she went with lysol wipes in hand and proceeded to clean the baseboards in the kitchen, dining room, family room, back entry, and half bath.

She needed a little pep talk every now and then. The excitement she first had was fading after about 8 minutes, but she continued to do a very good job, especially given that the baseboards have had no attention in a long time. (I refuse to tell you how long is long because I would be plan embarrassed.)

Pep talk #2: If you want the "prize" at the end of the job you have to finish and finish well!

After all was said and done I explained to Jessi that not everything in life is handed to us or is free, but that you have to work for it. Sometimes you have to work really hard even when you don't want to.

Her hard work paid off. She got herself a new Barbie (I only paid .50 cents for it at a garage sale.) We both win! Until next time, we'll see if she is as compliant about doing the dreaded chores!

  1. Courtney,
I've never seen your house dirty - not ever. Just come to my house and you can feel really good about yours. Can I hire Jess?
